Great Yarmouth company awarded major PPE contract for East Anglia ONE windfarm

As part of its ongoing commitment to support local businesses in the region, ScottishPower Renewables has awarded a significant contract to Great Yarmouth-based PPE (personal protective equipment) specialists, Gibb Safety & Survival.

The multi-year agreement will see Gibb Safety & Survival supply PPE to the East Anglia ONE windfarm project, including protective clothing, working at height apparatus and rescue, survival and marine equipment.

The company will also be responsible for the servicing and management of the PPE. This will take place at Gibb’s recently opened, state-of-the-art service centre in Great Yarmouth, and offshore at the East Anglia ONE windfarm.

ScottishPower Renewables has worked with many local suppliers since work started on the East Anglia ONE windfarm and committed £70 million to local suppliers delivering works across the East of England. Although the windfarm is now fully operational, ScottishPower Renewables is still committed to investing in the area by continuing to support local businesses.

Charlie Jordan, East Anglia ONE Project Director at ScottishPower Renewables, said: “We have been fortunate to work with some exceptional local suppliers on the East Anglia ONE project and Gibb Safety & Survival is another example of just how strong the supply chain is in this area. We are very happy to be awarding them this important contract and we look forward to developing a happy working relationship with them.”

Lee Sparkes, European Sales Manager at Gibb Safety & Survival, added: “We are delighted to be supporting ScottishPower Renewables with its PPE needs for the operation and maintenance of East Anglia ONE; it’s thanks to contracts like this that we’ve been able to create new jobs in the Great Yarmouth area. This new contract is one of many recent wins for us in the wind sector and cements our reputation as one of the sector’s leading suppliers of both on and offshore PPE.”

Gibb Safety & Survival along with Gibb Tools & Supplies have been supplying PPE and maintenance, repair and operation equipment to the energy sector for over 70 years. After diversifying its product and service offerings in line with the growth of renewable energy, the company is now one of the leading PPE specialists in the wind sector. Head quartered in Aberdeen, Gibb has recently opened a new £2m state-of-the-art disribution and service hub in Great Yarmouth and has recruited 12 new members of staff and two new apprentices to support its growth and ongoing client demand.

Located 43km off the coast of Suffolk, the East Anglia ONE windfarm has the capacity to generate 714MW of clean energy every year – enough to power more than 630,000 homes. The £2.5bn project features 102 Siemens Gamesa offshore wind turbines and is a joint venture between ScottishPower Renewables and Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG). It is one of four offshore windfarms ScottishPower Renewables is developing in the region.
