Originally from Iraq, Thuria and her family came to the UK in 1999 to seek asylum. In the past, due to her origins, she has been the target of racial attacks. Her difficult background has given her the strength and skills which have turned out to be very useful when she decided to start her own business.
After studying medicine at University of East Anglia working doctor for the NHS once qualified. She soon realised the prescription system was very dated so along with her husband, Thuria started her own business.
The aim?
Together they set out to provide a simplified prescription system which is completely paper free and directly addressed to the consumer.
Although Thuria has dyslexia the e-surgery system has been coded almost entirely by her.
Covid-19 led to a huge surge in demand. During this period Thuria stopped working in A&E to protect her team from potential infections. She is very proud of the organisational culture she and her team have built.
Thuria plans for the future include B2B, therefore enabling other companies – such as medical and cosmetic organisations – to offer prescriptions (e.g. hair loss medication).
And for this Thuria has been awarded the Artimis Award for the most inspirational woman running a business trading for 18 months to 3 years.
