Saxon Crossfit aiming for 1 Million charity burpees

Wymondham based Saxon Crossfit are aiming to raise money for local cancer charity ‘The Big C’ by completing 1 million burpees in a 30 day period.

The ‘Saxon Million’ challenge will see Gym members (and anyone else who can be persuaded!) to perform an average of 33,333 burpees every single day; whether in the gym or in any available space.

“You can do burpees at home, in the garden, in the street, at work, in any gym, in any room or in any space. You would be hard pushed to find somewhere you couldn’t do a burpee,” commented a Saxon Million organiser, “every year at Saxon we do an hour of burpees on Christmas Eve. It therefore made sense to extend the hour into our challenge”.

Aside from coinciding nicely with the gyms annual tradition organisers also chose the exercise for its symbolism, “A burpee is, in its briefest description, getting back up after hitting the ground. The concept of picking ourselves up over and over again no matter how many times we fall down is what life is all about. You can always get back up”.

Saxon Crossfit member Sharon Johnson, Trustee of ‘The Big C’ and herself a cancer survivor, is championing the event amongst fellow gym-goers, “We will be burpee-ing every day, holding open days for anyone to come and join us in our burpees, running a raffle, awarding prizes for the most burpees completed and asking absolutely everyone to donate and support us in this effort!”
