Golfers are getting in the swing to support an annual fundraiser

Kind-hearted golfers are raising the ‘par’ to support East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

Teams of four will be getting in the swing for a special charity event at Swaffham Golf Club on Monday, 18th July.

It is being organised by the Rotary Club of Swaffham and the main beneficiaries will be EACH and Swaffham and Litcham Home Hospice Support.

Places are filling fast but there is still time to enter a team.

Rotary Club of Swaffham secretary Denis Bishop said: “We’re very much looking forward to our charity golf day, which has been taking place every year since 2013, apart from 2020.

“We always support one Norfolk-wide charity, on this occasion EACH, and one local to Swaffham.

“In total, we’re proud to say we’ve raised around £35,000 since 2013, with the yearly average in the region of £5,000 and £6,000.

“That’s a lot of money for a small club like ours and it’s wonderful to have helped so many worthy causes.

“As a club and committee, we’re hugely supportive of the work EACH does.

“I remember visiting the hospice many years ago, when the charity was based at Quidenham.

“We knew a young lad who was receiving care there and it’s an incredible charity that does so much to support families and care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions.”

There have been as many as 22 teams before and hopes are high there will be at least 20 on 18th July.

The winning team will win medals and six bottles of wine each.

The runners-up get four bottles of wine each, the third-placed team two bottles each and the fourth-placed team one apiece.

There will also be other competitions, including nearest the pin, with prizes including a host of golf goodies.

“I’m very confident we’ll sell out so anyone interesting in entering a team should act fast,” added Mr Bishop.

“Teams come from across the county to join us, from Diss to Norwich and King’s Lynn.

“As well as the golf, we also provide a two-course lunch as well as a raffle and small auction, which this year includes a bed and breakfast stay, a tour of Woodforde’s Brewery and a round at Hintlesham Golf Club.”

The golf day, a stableford competition being sponsored by Adrian Flux Insurance Services, gets underway at 9.30am and the cost per team of four – which can be gents, ladies or mixed – is £180.
