Corbel’s Paul Lough is climbing Kilimanjaro for Cancer Research
20/09/2018 - Corbel

Managing Director, Paul Lough of Corbel Solutions, has reached the peak of his career, however, he now faces another challenge; Paul will be swapping the boardroom for caves, camping and the jungle as he travels to Tanzania to reach the peak of Kilimanjaro.
Paul will be raising much needed funds for Cancer Research; “I chose Cancer Research because so many people I know have been affected by this terrible disease, family, friends, colleagues… everyone has had horrible experiences with it. So the goal is to reach at least £5,000 in donations” Paul explains.
Aiming for the top
Paul has endured several injections for various diseases. “No one wants to catch rabies half way up a mountain,” he says. He’s also kept local camping shops in business as he’s stocked up on vital equipment such as sleeping bags, inflatable mats and sturdy walking boots. “Anyone who knows me understands the biggest challenge will be when I realise I’m halfway up a mountain and at least twenty kilometres away from the nearest bottle of red wine. I’ll be drinking from streams, carrying my own weight in supplies on my back and sleeping in a tent with strangers. Not to mention going to the toilet behind a convenient boulder. The reality is though, not many people who attempt this actually make it to the summit. So I want to go there and achieve what I’ve set out to do.”
Paul has been preparing for his ascent of the highest mountain in Africa by walking La Concha in Spain. “It almost killed me,” he says. “But I’m about to do it again.” He’s also visited the Peak District where he met up with members of the team he’ll be ascending Kilimanjaro with. “I’ll be going there again to do another walk before I go.”
Donations welcome
Paul has previously completed charity bike rides for great local charities such as Headway Suffolk and Fresh Start New Beginnings, to name a few, but this is his biggest yet. “The last push will be at least a twelve hour climb to the summit. Reaching Uhuru Point, which is 5,895 metres above sea level, will be something to be proud of. But the most important thing is that I can raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research. So please consider donating if you can, and together we can help the fight against this awful disease.”
